Les Petits Intrépides

Les Petits Intrépides is a choir for young and enthusiastic French speaking children ages 8 through 12. They rehearse weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at (to be determined). In rehearsals, singers will learn to develop fine vocalism, ear training, sight reading, and basic rudiment and choral performance discipline. All rehearsals and communication with the singers is in French. This gives the singers an opportunity to practice their oral French skills and to be exposed to French culture. Performances include two to three concerts in December and spring concerts in April or early May. During the year, singers will have opportunities to attend social activities outside of rehearsals, where they can socialize and get to know each other. We encourage all children who have a sincere interest to apply.
Membership Fee
Membership fees are $? per year from September to May. This is payable in either a lump sum or by installments.
We seek singers with talent and potential talent and will not turn anyone away for financial reasons. Please speak with the choir director or the coordinator regarding your financial situation.
Commitment
We try to be flexible with times and taking attendance, but a good degree of commitment is required. Regular attendance to rehearsals is necessary so that singers do not miss important instruction and to allow the choir to work with a complete roster of choristers.
Vocal Assessment Interviews
Before being able to join the choir, each new singer will need to complete a 15–20 minute vocal assessment interview. These are one on one interviews with the director where each singer will be asked to:
- chat about their musical background and their interests
- take part in some vocal exercises and music reading activities (eg. rhythm clapbacks, melody echos, note reading
- sing a simple song of their choice that they are excited to perform, such as Happy Birthday or O Canada.
Vocal assessment interviews will be done online through a Zoom meeting in the months of May, June and August.
